Marian McCurry was born to the late Early Frank McCurry and Fannie Laura Bolden on August 13, 1952 in Hartwell Georgia. Both parents preceded her in death.  Marian accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church and later joined St. Mel’s Holy Ghost Catholic Church here in Chicago.

Marian attended Bryant Elementary School and graduated from Tilton Junior High in 1966 and 1970 from Austin High School. After graduation she started her work career at Sears, Roebuck and Company on Homan and Arthington and continued on for 24 years at Newark Electronics and Arrow Messenger Service where she retired.  After retirement and in her spare time Marian worked at the St. Martin DePorres Parish House as a housekeeper and cook for our clergy.

Marian loved her church and it showed through her singing in the choir as a soprano, co-directing the children’s choir for two years, and serving in the mass as a Eucharistic Minister. Marian loved to draw and write poems for special occasions in her spare time.  She was passionate about life by dancing, playing cards, listening to music especially Marvin Gaye, Barry White and Johnnie Taylor.  Sunday’s she listen to gospel music while getting ready for church. While having a good time with family and friends, her laugh was contagious, you can hear it from across the room and when you did you couldn’t help but to laugh. Marian wanted to live for her grandchildren Serell and Senai. She cherished their many moments and time spent from a baby to the present, spoiling and coming to their assistance just  like a grandparent would do.

Marian departed this life on Saturday morning February 27, 2021.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, Marvin Darrell, Melissa Donnetta, and Matthew Darnell McCurry, her grandchildren Serell Roshun Williams and Senai Lauren Artis, two sister’s Harriette Graham (Coleman Graham) and Dorothy Cobb.  Bobbie Jean Webb and Earl Dexter McCurry preceded her in death. And a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
