Herman Gene McBride was born on March 23, 1942, to Elijah and Pearlie McBride. Raised in the close-knit community of Princeton Pike, on the outskirt of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Herman was always surrounded by family and friends. He often joked that he was the lucky child, having been born seventh among his siblings.

Herman attended Barnes Elementary School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He graduated from Coleman High School in 1962. Herman joined St. Luke A.M.E Church at an early age.

Herman moved to Chicago in 1966, following the footsteps of many of his siblings and other family members. He worked in Industrial factories throughout his life, including Barr Chemicals. Herman retired from Morton Grove Pharmaceuticals in 2019.

Herman was a passionate, caring family man, who always extended himself to anyone in need.

Herman took his place into eternity on January 14, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents Elijah and Pearlie McBride; wife, Carolyn McBride; granddaughter Arrieal Crosby-Geiggar, grandson, Artez McBride (Spud); siblings Clem, Beryl (Mack), Dolphine, Arthur Lee, Tonita, Thurman, Kathleen, Gertrude, and Maxine. He leaves to cherish his memory: sisters, Idell, Alvester and Clementean, and sister-in-law Dorthea; daughters, Valerie, Nikita, Leslie, Tiffany and Amanda; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
